NEW CONCEPT OF FEED FOR SULAWESI SHRIMPS

Updated: Mar 5

“What feed should we choose for Sulawesi shrimps?” has always been a troublesome issue for many shrimp lovers. Indeed, most Sulawesi shrimps are considered picky and difficult to be raised, excluding a few easy species. Acclimation should be the main factor that affects foraging behavior, but the "nature" of Sulawesi shrimps is even more important. Recently, we have found a special feed, which is believed to be an ideal product that is in line with the "nature" of Sulawesi shrimps. Now we would like to share it with you.

[Baguette-Shrimp Expert] is developed by LARMAX, a well-known ornamental shrimp

manufacturer. Although it is designed for crystal shrimps, this product has the following characteristics and is considered as a new choice for Sulawesi shrimps:

1. Plant-based protein is a more in line with the native environment of Sulawesi

shrimps.

Unlike crystal shrimps and colored caridinal shrimps, animal-based ingredients such as eel powder and fish oil are not attractive to most Sulawesi shrimps. From the ecological and evolutionary viewpoint, it is speculated that Sulawesi shrimps lack animal food sources in their native environment, so they have evolved different preferences. On the other hand, the most distinctive feature of Sulawesi ancient lakes is its lack of phosphate, making it oligotrophic lakes with extremely low primary productivity. The main organic matter comes from plant debris of the surrounding forests. Based on the above, although Sulawesi shrimps are omnivorous, we speculate that the main food source should be vegetable.

Many literatures point out that if omnivores who are mainly vegetarians consume too much animal protein, their intestinal microbiota will change, thus affecting their health. [Baguette-Shrimp Expert] contains high unit of plant protein without animal ingredients, so we believe it is more suitable for the intestinal microorganisms of Sulawesi shrimps.

2. The long stick form is conducive to observing the foraging behavior of Sulawesi shrimps.

Many shrimp lovers enjoy watching Sulawesi shrimps eating. The activity range of Sulawesi shrimps during the day is small, so it is difficult to observe their foraging behavior. Although they are more active at night, the body coloration is lighter or even transparent. To observe glittering shrimps eating during the day, the feed must be placed in a specific location. The unique long stick form of [Baguette-Shrimp Expert] can be easily stuck on the sunken wood, making it easier for Sulawesi shrimps that prefer to move above the sunken wood, such as yellow noses, to eat. For those that prefer to move at the bottom, such as yellow cheeks, just place the feed under the sunken wood. Due to the size of the long stick, larger shrimps will not

take away the feed. Instead, you can enjoy the warm scene of large and small shrimps eating together.

3. The non-disintegrating property helps maintain water quality.

The foraging behavior of Sulawesi shrimps is not like that of crystal shrimps or colored caridinal shrimps, which gather at the feed quickly. Instead, they tend to move randomly and stop to eat when they encounter the feed. Therefore, it is inevitable to leave the feed in the tank for a longer period. Generally, the feed will soften and disintegrate after being left in the water for a few hours, but [Baguette-Shrimp Expert] won’t even for more than a day. The residue can be easily fished out. According to our past experience, residual fragments stuck in hardware or filters may lead to the growth of opportunistic pathogens, posing a threat to Sulawesi shrimps. The non-disintegrating property reduces this potential risk a lot.

Our laboratory has a high evaluation of [Baguette-Shrimp Expert]! We sincerely recommend it to you all Sulawesi shrimp lovers!
